Hello everyone
Raza Griffiths joint coordinator from national SPN gave a lively presentation, updating us on recent developments in SPN nationally.
In addition to questions and a discussion about Raza's presentation, those attending raised issues that are current in mental health in the region in particular the de-integration of MH teams into separate health and social services teams that is happening in some parts of the region, development of the choice agenda (Our Health, Our Care, Our Say) and how the possible roll out of individual budgets could impact on mental health services. It was suggested that these topics might be subjects for future SPN study days.
Raza is also the SPN contact person for the Mental Health Alliance on the new Mental Health Act . It is likely that the Alliance's focus will be on input about the nature of training for the Approved Mental Health Practitioner and the new Code of Practice. We had some discussion about how SPN members could have input into any discussions / consultations on both these areas. In the first instance this could be through direct contact with Raza but we also discussed the possibility of a study day on this issue too.
If anyone has any further thoughts, ideas, suggestions on these issues, please do get in touch with Raza or me.
NB Just a reminder that the next regional meeting is at 1.00 p.m. on 20th November at Tom carpenter House, Newcastle, on the topic of advocacy.
Best wishes,
Jeanie Molyneux
