We set out in this section to demystify and to clarify various initiatives in relation to the social care workforce. There’s so much going on that we may have succeeded only in adding to your confusion so we have altered the lay out by introducing a number of triggers to the latest news.
First there is New Ways of Working- this contains updates from the social work sub group of the national NWW programme. SPN is well represented on this reflecting the leading role it has played in getting the widespread anxiety in the field heard at national level. Terry Bamford, SPN Director, is co –chair of the group and Judy Foster, co chair of SPN, Jerry Tew, and Dawn Walker are members of the group. The latest initiative launched by the group is convening a forum of all national organisations representing social care staff in January to see if they can make common cause on some key issues instead of sounding divergent notes.
Second is the ASW leads group which is a newly established initiative currently surveying ASWs for their views. We are happy to let a wider audience know of their work as the debate about AMHPs will occupy many of us over the next few months .
Third is the London leads group which meets 4 or 5 times a year. The report of the last meeting contains links to presentations on the Mental Capacity Act and to SPN.
Fourth, the future requirements for AMHPs are going to be critical in ensuring that standards are maintained. The GSCC has the lead role here and we have information about the latest position. Here too there is an element of waiting for the Queens Speech to see if the long heralded mental health legislation is finally to break surface.
And our fifth category is more reflective drawing together publications and articles relevant to the development of social care. There is some rich material here.
We hope you find this new lay out easier to find your way round- let us know what you think
